Jim’s long-suffering mother, who died in 1926, within months of his emigration to Canada. His father writes:

 

 

Your mam lived to read your letter and was so proud of the dollars you sent, she declared she’d never spend them. 

But, it pains me to tell you, dear boy, she died soon after.
